Highland Council has taken out a subscription to the Grantnet grant search portal and is offering access to all community groups in the Highlands and Islands. Registration is required. See link above.

Highland 2007 Legacy Fund launched today

The Highland Council has launched the Highland 2007 Legacy Programme, providing an annual fund of £500k in grants to build upon the success of Highland 2007. The programme aims to enhance and to promote the events, festivals and cultural programme of the Highlands. Community organisations, promoters, artists, performers, youth groups and schools are now being encouraged to create their own legacy of Highland 2007 and to submit their applications.

The stunning ironwork of Stornoway is the focus of a new exhibition. The celebration of the amazing decorative cast ironwork will go on display at Museum nan Eilean from April 9 in a joint project between Historic Scotland and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar. The exhibition will run until the end of the year.

Bogs and Beasties in Fort Augustus

CILL CHUIMEIN HERITAGE Fort Augustus & Area Heritage Group invite you to the Fort Augustus Church Hall on Monday March 3rd at 2.00 pm to meet the professional wildlife expert: Mary Elliott, who is currently working to protect the environment of the Glendo Hydro scheme. She will offer us an illustrated presentation about “Bogs and Beasties” and will afterwards welcome your queries about wildlife in general. Free admission & first-time attendees most welcome. TEACHING more Scottish history in schools will prevent youngsters being misled by Hollywood versions such as Braveheart, the schools minister has said.

An international search has been launched for young people whose ancestors fought on either side at the Battle of Culloden.
